Wortegemsen is getting a new flavour!

Let’s start with some history around the brand. The origin and story behind Wortegemsen started out as a complete accident. The name that is known as the very first Belgian fruit genever originated from a tradition in which women at the time experimented with making a spirit based on lemon juice, citrus pulp, genever & sugar. The drink was popularly called a “Wortegemsen”, referring to the place where the recipe originated (Wortegem-Petegem).

Not much later, Albert Kint, owner of a distillery near Waregem, brought the recipes together and commercialised them. The “Wortegemsen” brand was officially born in the late 1970s. In 2009 Filliers Distillery, led by Bernard Filliers, fifth generation, took over the company and the production moved to Deinze.

In the meantime, more than 40 years later, it was time for something new. Not only did the labels get an update, but the Wortegemsen brand also got a new flavour. After months of testing and various studies, the master distillers at Filliers Distillery created a recipe based on sun-ripened oranges. The new taste still follows the same values as the lemon variety, namely a fruit genever that is enriched with fresh citrus pulp.

The Wortegemsen Orange is a refreshing alternative to the original recipe. Ideal for drinking pure on the rocks or as a low alcoholic cocktail such as the “Indian Summer” by Filliers, which perfectly matches the autumn and makes you dream away of warm summer days.
