Grain Genever

The origin of this recipe goes back to the first generation. It was Karel Lodewijk Filliers who started a farming business around 1830 and started distilling genever in the margins. That is how he developed the recipe that was passed on from generation to generation. It has been continuously refined & improved.

Genever 30°

After distillation, the master distillers create a unique blend. This blend consists of malt wine that has matured for 3 years, juniper berry distillate, water from the soil on site & grain alcohol.

Filliers Distillery is also one of the few who still brew their own malt wine, and for that reason may call itself a warm distillery. The result is a light yellow grain genever in which refined flavours develop long & soft.

Taste notes: Notes of very soft grain with wood, interspersed with a touch of vanilla and malt wine. The finish is long & soft, with fine spicy notes.

Young Grain Genever 35°

For this genever, the master distillers put together a precise blend after distillation, consciously working with young genever that has not aged on barrels. The grain genever is therefore clear.

Furthermore, juniper berry distillate, water from its own soil & grain alcohol are added to the blend. This creates a specific & spicy character.

Taste notes: The grain flavour is more pronounced while in the foreground a refined blend of soft & sweet spices plays that ends in a soft finish.

Genever 5 Years Old

For this grain genever, five year old malt wine is used in the blend. This influences both the colour and the taste, which distinguishes this genever from the young grain genevers. In addition, grain alcohol, water from the Filliers’ soil & juniper distillate are added to the blend.

This genever is also a certified O’de Flander product, making it part of the rich Belgian jenever tradition.

Taste notes: Vanilla that comes from the wood gives a soft roundness to the jenever, although it is more powerful because of its age.

Grain Genever

Filliers Distillery’s youngest genevers are never placed in a barrel, so they remain fresh & young in taste. The others go after distillation for at least three years in oak barrels, which gives a rounder character due to the influence of time, but also thanks to the aromas from the oak that gives off its taste.

Then the master distillers create a unique blend of the aged malt wine, grain alcohol, water, and the juniper distillate. The traditional production process in copper stills is combined with craftsmanship that intertwines knowledge from generations. This results in genever with a velvety grain flavour and a warm light yellow colour.

Fruit Genever

At the end of the eighties, pioneers Jan & Bernard Filliers launched a completely new range based on genever and various fresh fruit juices. These fruit genevers are a lot lower in alcohol percentage and therefore have a gentler taste.

Coffee Liqueur

The Filliers Distillery coffee liqueur is prepared on the basis of five year old Filliers grain genever, and quality coffee from Arabica beans originating from Guatemala. The maturing of the grain genever provides a depth & roundness that complements the earthy flavours of the coffee generously.
